Join our exclusive Capital Area Water Ski Club Practice Sessions

If you are an open water skier that would like to transition to the world of competitive slalom skiing, our summer ski league practice series is just for you!

You will have a chance to practice and learn how to run the slalom course, (or mini slalom course) on private, certified competition ski lakes for only $10/set.

In an effort to increase participation in our summer tournaments series, and grow the sport of competitive water skiing, we have added a “Summer Ski League” designed to help the recreational skier make the transition from the open water to the world of competitive skiing!

2021 will be our 9th year of running the ski league.

Who:

Existing Slalom Skiers capable of getting up and crossing the wake with confidence who want to test themselves on, and conquer the mini course, or slalom course. One of our main goals with these practice sessions is to give skiers access to the local slalom courses who wouldn’t otherwise have it. We want to make sure that non lake owners & non ski lake leasees get first opportunity to ski & practice the course!  You don’t necessarily need to be a beginner to participate.   All skill levels are welcome, as long as you can get up out of the water & feel comfortable crossing the wakes.

To participate, you must join the Capital Area Water Ski Club. If you have questions regarding whether or not your skill level is appropriate, please contact our coordinator:
Mark Zimmerman @ Markzimmy@gmail.com

What:

Ski on glass……smooth water on private ski lakes with certified competition courses using powerful inboard competition ski boats with computerized GPS speed control. Receive instruction from seasoned tournament skiers. Make ski friends and training buddies!

When:

Wednesday evenings 5:30pm-dusk.

Although we will try to accommodate “walk ins”,  we highly recommend pre-registration on the Google Sheet so that event coordinators can plan accordingly.  There may be times when we need to cancel a given session, or shut it down early, so we want to be in touch with expected participants on any given night.    We like to have at least 3 skiers committed to each session in order to run the session.

For the 2021 Schedule

Where:

Sessions will rotate per the calendar above across three private ski lakes: Frameswitch (near Hutto), San Marcos River Ranch (near Martindale), and Austin Aquaplex (near Buda). Click on the site names for Google maps.  An email will be sent out to all interested parties before each event outlining exactly what lake and dock we will be meeting at that evening.

Requirements:

For liability reasons, skiers must pay for USA Water Ski coverage.  A year-long Grass Roots membership is only $35.

To ski, you must also be a member of the Capital Area Water Ski Club.

For each ski ride, there will be a small fee to cover gas, driver/coaching/safety officials, lake access and boat usage.

You will need to sign an event waiver each time you participate.

Fees:

Cash or check will be accepted on site. Membership applications (AWSA and CAWSC) will be available on site if needed. Please bring exact change whenever possible.

  • Up-front cost: Membership Application ($25 new individual)
  • Per ski day insurance cost: $7 USAWS insurance (maximum of 5 payments)
  • Per ski ride fee: $10* for 6 passes through the course or 15 minutes (whichever comes first)
